Japanese Home Features - 3 Weekly Words

Zabuton

(座布団)
A traditional Japanese floor cushion used for seating. Made from soft materials like cotton, zabutons enhance comfort during activities such as meditation, tea ceremonies, or sitting at low tables. They also contribute to the aesthetic appeal of interior spaces, often used on tatami floors or with legless chairs (zaisu).

Kotatsu

(炬燵)
A low, heated table covered by a blanket for warmth. It consists of a wooden frame, a heat source underneath, and a futon or blanket enclosing it. Kotatsu are central to creating cozy communal spaces where people can dine, study, or relax with family and friends during colder seasons.

Kamidana

(神棚)
Kami (神): In Japanese, translates to "god" or "spirit." And Dana (棚) : translates to "shelf". Kamidana is a miniature Shinto shrine found in Japanese homes, placed on a high shelf. It holds religious items for daily rituals and offerings to household deities, symbolizing a connection to the spiritual realm and fostering a sense of reverence and harmony within the home.

Simple Approach: Script for Communicating with Japanese Realtors

I've developed a script of pre-established phrases to facilitate communication with Japanese real estate agents and gather detailed information about listed properties. This script empowers you to construct inquiries effortlessly, covering aspects like location, size, condition, amenities, renovation history, and cultural significance. Whether scheduling viewings or seeking clarification, this tool enhances engagement.

Upon receiving responses, I recommend using translation software for clear understanding. Avoid initiating contact in English initially, as Japanese agents may be less responsive. Utilizing your Japanese skills or this script for the initial approach is advised.
